Life of Pi (2012)

Life of Pi (2012) Review

Director: Ang Lee

I survived three years without even the slightest desire to see "Life of Pi". But then came Christmas 2015, I had just finished watching a show on TV when a new film started and this film was one of the most unbelievable films I've ever seen. Frankly speaking, the reason why I had not watch this Ang Lee's masterpiece before even though it did win a good bunch of Oscars, was the fact that so many of my friends and acquaintances had said they were disappointed with the plot and the film was half-way boring. After the first 10 - 15 min, I was pretty sure I would go to sleep soon too, but then things got really exciting, and missing the outcome of the story seemed almost like a deprivation of an unforgettable experience.

Let's back up a little. "Life of Pi" focuses on a conversation between a Canadian writer and an Indian storyteller named Pi Patel who has gone through an adventure of a lifetime. Pi was an adolescent when his parents decided to move from India to America bringing their zoo with them. During their voyage, the ship sinks and the only man left alive is Pi. He finds an escape on a lifeboat that Pi must learn to share with his worst childhood nightmare - the Bengal tiger Richard Parker. And so the 277-day long journey to civilization begins.

"Life of Pi" is a fictional adventure film at its best. Not only does it have a captivating and emotional story behind it, but also the cinematographic work is superb. "Life of Pi" will melt the hearts of even the biggest haters of the fantasy genre because it is much more than just adventures. The film teaches us to never give up, to be patient and believe in the power of God. It's all about appreciating what you have and learning to live with it. And what's more. Sometimes the most unimaginable, malicious beings can become your best companions.

The only regret I have is that I didn't see the film when it had just come out. Watching "Life of Pi" on the big screens would be even more amazing.
